Who this policy is from
Walya Fleet operates the platform reachable at www.waliyafleet.com, the Walya mobile applications, the *922# USSD service and the 9252 voice line. This policy covers all of them.
What we collect, why we collect it, where it is kept, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Draft — pending legal review
This document describes how Walya Fleet actually operates today, but it has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel and is not final. If anything here matters to a decision you are making, contact us and we will confirm it in writing. Last updated 16 September 2026.
Walya Fleet operates the platform reachable at www.waliyafleet.com, the Walya mobile applications, the *922# USSD service and the 9252 voice line. This policy covers all of them.
Account details: your name, your phone number, and the language you prefer to be contacted in.
Verification documents, where the service requires them: a Fayda national ID for identity verification, a driving licence for drivers, and a bollo certificate with photographs of the vehicle’s registration plates for vehicle owners.
Service records: the bookings you make or accept, pickup and delivery locations, route and timing information for a job in progress, and the messages exchanged about a booking.
Payment records: top-ups, escrow movements, payouts and the receipts issued against completed work. We do not store your bank card details.
Technical records: the requests your device makes to our servers, including the network address it came from, kept so we can detect abuse and investigate faults.
To provide the service you asked for — matching, routing, pricing, payment and delivery confirmation.
To verify that people and vehicles on the platform are who and what they claim to be, which is what makes the platform usable by strangers.
To resolve disputes, using the recorded facts of a job rather than the recollection of either party.
To meet legal and tax obligations, including issuing invoices and retaining records for as long as the law requires.
To detect fraud and abuse. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
On infrastructure inside Ethiopia. There is no foreign cloud provider holding a copy of the platform’s data.
Identity documents are read by a text-recognition engine that Walya hosts itself. Your documents are not sent to Google, Amazon, Microsoft or any other external service for processing.
Maps, routing and distance calculation run on Walya’s own servers using OpenStreetMap data. No external mapping provider receives a record of your journeys.
Personal fields are encrypted by the application before they are written to the database, so the stored records are ciphertext rather than readable text. This protects the data if storage, a backup or a snapshot is ever obtained by someone who should not have it. It is a strong protection, not an absolute one; we describe its limits plainly on our data page.
You, through your own account.
The other party to a booking, limited to what they need in order to carry it out — a driver collecting a parcel sees the collection point and your contact details for that job, not your history.
Walya staff, where it is necessary to resolve a dispute, investigate abuse or meet a legal obligation. Staff access is logged against the individual who made it.
Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose. We do not volunteer your data outside that obligation.
Account and verification records are kept while your account is active, and afterwards for as long as we are required to be able to demonstrate that a person or a vehicle was verified.
Financial records are kept for the period Ethiopian tax law requires.
Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and fault investigation, and then deleted.
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct something that is wrong, or ask us to delete your account and the data that is not subject to a legal retention requirement.
Write to us and we will respond. We will ask you to verify your identity first — otherwise the request itself becomes a way to obtain someone else’s data.
If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we will update this page and say when it changed. Material changes will be notified to account holders directly rather than only posted here.

The technical decisions behind this policy are described in plainer language on our data page.
